London Fashion Week(end)
Last Friday I got to see a place that might actually be my home planet: London Fashion Weekend. (My sister always said I was adopted). It's a three day long event for the fashion lovers and admirers that takes place the weekend after Fashion Week at the Somerset House. There are fashion shows, guest speakers, and most importantly, endless amounts of designer shopping. At discount prices. Which is basically a mating call for a broke, fashion-loving student.
I got an early morning ticket and despite the snow and freezing temperatures, I still managed to pull off the sweatpants and put on the one designer dress I own. (Not that it's needed in order to attend, but where else am I going to wear it? The library?)
*Note on this dress: I spent pretty much every day for four months staring at this Twenty8Twelve dress online before finally deciding to buy it...after opening up a credit card and paying it off in installments. (It's an investment!) I was also recovering from gallbladder surgery and I/the pain pills decided that I deserved it.
(It really wasn't too expensive, but NYC living doesn't exactly allow for anything extra. It's groceries or the dress). |
Moving on, the location set up was a nice mix of modern and historical. Basically, you would watch the fashion show inside the tent, maybe do a little shopping or free coffee binging (guilty) and then walk into the building that's been around since 1796 to go shop for shoes. Surreal.
The fashion show I got to see was, appropriately, for Twenty8Twelve. A little bit about the brand for anyone who's interested (if not, then this entire post is probably a pass):
T8T was originally started by fashion designer Savannah Miller and her actress sister Sienna Miller. They've recently stepped down from the label, but the collections have maintained their London street style (so basically cooler than what I wear. Leggings for life!). They are most known for their expertly tailored designs. I'll have my dress forever. (Especially since I only wear it twice a year).
Here are some of my runway pictures. I somehow managed to get front row because I'm basically a celebrity...and I know how to walk fast to the front of the line in heels:
My favorite. How the models aren't blinded is beyond me. |
Lastly, I took a little video of the finale so you could see first hand what it looks like. Sorry for the poor quality- it's not like I have a B.S in Film and Television or anything.
After the show I did a little perusing and YES OK I may have bought some clothes. But to be fair they were off the super duper sale rack. And it was the 14 month anniversary of my gallbladder surgery so I deserved it.
